How will the lead ammo ban affect you?

In October of 2013 the state of California passed a ban on hunting with lead ammunition http://www.dfg.ca.gov/wildlife/hunting/lead-free/ . While more states are looking at the same alternative to traditional hunting, I am looking for ammunition alternatives myself. Not everyone has a friend that works overnight in the Sporting Goods dept at the local big box retailer that can text them in the middle of the night to let them know that they got in 6 boxes of .380 (or whatever).

The Washington Times reported that the only smelter left in the U.S. that produced lead for ammunition closing will have absolutely no effect on the availability or cost of ammunition http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/dec/2/obamas-epa-smelter-closing-will-not-affect-ammunit/?page=all . Most major ammunition manufacturers began making "green" ammo by 2008 when the lead ammo debates intensified. If you do a cost comparison between the two, non-lead ammo is not the same cost as traditional lead ammo.

It makes me wonder if the $11 core charge on a car battery is worth it, or is that something that I should save along with the lead I pick out of the hillside at the shooting range. I have been saving my brass for years. Why not save the lead as well? Many people are making their own bullets http://www.ehow.com/how_2212846_make-ammunition.html and have been for some time. As a child I can remember my father casting .54 caliber balls for his muzzleloader.

As more states are looking at alternatives to lead bullets I will keep collecting lead (and storing it safely) for my personal use. http://ehs.whoi.edu/ehs/occsafety/leadweightsafety.pdf . If it gets to the point where you need to make your own bullets, it will be too late to start collecting lead.

Practice makes Perfect.

Guns and Christmas...

Well everyone is looking for GREAT deals for Christmas and Black Friday. Well here you go. Besides having low, low, low prices on concealed clothing (and everything), we have a Christmas deal worthy of singing praise.

Besides being fun and easy to read because of how well written it is the book "Oregon Concealed" is the leader in informing us on how, where, when, what is the law, and how is it interpreted.

From Black Friday until Jan 31 you can get a copy of this book for free when you purchase an online conceal course for yourself, or buy it as a gift for someone else (great gift idea). All you have to do is use the discount code "book" at the checkout.
You can still purchase the book at regular price without a class for $14.95 + shipping (also a great gift idea). You do not have to live in Oregon to benefit from this book.

Practice Shooting, Practice often

I beleive that holidays are time for family, and a time to reflect on the things that are important in life. Many people think of Easter as a time to make it to church. Some, to reflect on god, or spend time with family, pray, have a big dinner, or maybe even stay at home and do nothing or lock yourself away and try to avoid it all. We, as Americans, have the right to do any of these as we wish. We have the FREEDOM of religion and chioce because our forefathers stood up and said we are free, and fought for those rights that many take for granted.
We woke up and had a big traditional (our family tradition) Easter breakfast, then we went in the back yard and found easter baskets and looked for eggs. Now, we are loading up in the surburban and going to the rock quarry to practice shooting. We are going to shoot at exploding pistol targets (that you can purchase on my website) and easter eggs (nice small targets). Because really, how many eggs can we eat anyway?
Any time that you can spend with family is a good oppotunity to teach your children gun safety, and practice, practice, practice. If anybody in my family finds themselves in a situation that they have to use a gun to defend themselves or our freedoms, it is good to know that they will know how. It is good to know that they will hit their target, and not something they do not want to shoot.
It is a day for family and a day for fun.

 HAPPY EASTER.

Treason by Senator Burdick - Oregon

SB 1550 and 1551 went down because Don Leach called it the way it is. The sponsor, Senator Burdick, in support of criminals and drug dealers and in order to make their lives easier submitted these bills. Under her actions she violated the Oregon Constitution Article 1, Sections 1, 24, and 27. In doing so it is my view she committed Treason within the meaning of the Oregon Constitution. I am thankful for the wisdom of the Judiciary Committee is seeing through this overt attack by the Senator on all of us who are native Oregonians or choose to live here.

Conceal carry in schools

The Oregonian Newspaper recently ran an article about  Concealed Carry at our public universities in the state of Oregon. http://www.oregonlive.com/education/index.ssf/2011/09/oregon_court_of_appeals_reject.html
At the base level we see that it should be clear cut, and simple. We are governed by Federal and State law. The Oregon Revised Statues are clear where it comes to "public schools", "public buildings" and exceptions.
Even though the Oregon Concealed Handgun Licenses are issued by the County, The laws concerning concealed carry are made exclusively by the Oregon Legislature, and apply the same throughout the state.
